Digital Installation at Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships

For the ninth year paddling, Sun Life Financial returns as title sponsor of the Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships 2016. In order to infuse more fun and excitement to the community, Sun Life decided to launch an interactive digital game installation on-site.

Business Challenge

Hosting an outdoor game installation is no easy task. Motion/facial detection technology such as Leap motion and Kinect could not be used due to the instability resulted from the surroundings. Meanwhile, with the possibility of hot weather and rain, a number of restrictions were to be considered, from the stage of idea development to on-site setup.

Idea

By embracing the tradition of “Dragon Boat Water” (龍舟水) which is said to bring good health and remove bad luck, we decided to develop a festive and exciting game that sprays water and escalates players’ mood to fever pitch.
With the use of tailored program and unique QR codes, guests could not only enjoy the excitement that the game brought, but could also share their moments captured by the installation to their facebook. As a result, we expected to turn offline happenings into online exposure.

Our Role

Pixo Punch has provided one-stop solutions from idea development, game and layout design, programming to installation setup, enabling a seamless O2O experience.

Achievements

500+ participants have enjoyed the game booth and 2,000+ photos were taken in the 7-hour event. This campaign helped strengthen Sun Life’s brand image as a leading brand in promoting healthier lifestyles that make life brighter.
